Davies' Vendée Globe dream ends too soon

The image is still so fresh: British skipper Samantha Davies, standing on the deck of her boat, Saveol, about to push off for the start of the solo around-the-world Vendée Globe sailing race last Saturday, rosy-cheeked and smiling but also radiating barely repressed impatience. She couldn't wait to get away from the throngs on the docks and head out to sea.
