Cristiane Santos has appeal denied
The California State Athletic Commission on Monday denied an appeal by former Strikeforce women's featherweight champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos to have her one-year suspension reduced.Santos' license was suspended by the CSAC when her prefight urine sample came back positive for stanozolol metabolites shortly after she defeated Hiroko Yamanaka on Dec. 17.
As a result of Santos' positive drug test, the fight's outcome was changed to a "no contest," she was fined $2,500 and stripped of her 145-pound title.
Santos sat before members of the CSAC on Monday in Sacramento, Calif., in an attempt to have her year-long ban, which was applied retroactively to Dec. 16, cut to six months.
During the hearing Santos admitted the error of her ways.
"I made a mistake," said Santos, who has professional record of 10-1 with one no contest. "I do not condone the use of performance-enhancing drugs in MMA."
