UConn lands Canada's top prospect

Geno Auriemma and Connecticut made a splash down the early signing week stretch on Monday when they got a verbal commitment from Kia Nurse, Canada's top high school prospect.

The 5-foot-11 wing was a member of the Canadian national team. Her decision reportedly came down to UConn and Penn State, and she made her announcement after attending Sunday's 71-52 Huskies' win over the Lady Lions. Nurse is the niece of former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb and his wife, Raquel.

Nurse joins a loaded UConn class that was third in the most recent espnW HoopGurlz rankings. Already signed with UConn is Gabby Williams, a 5-11 guard and the No. 14 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Top 100; Sadie Edwards, a 5-9 guard and the No. 18 prospect in the class; and Courtney Ekmark, a 6-foot guard and the No. 31 prospect in the class.

The NCAA's early signing period ends on Wednesday.
