Men's college basketball: I confess I didn't watch much of No. 12 Purdue's 67-53 win over Indiana. The Boilermakers are now 13-0 at home this season. ... Bruce Pearl may want to go back to being suspended (or at least suspend that bright orange blazer) after his Volunteers lost 73-61 at Kentucky. The Wildcats are 11-0 at home this season. ... After a valiant second-half comeback to force overtime (after trailing 48-35 with seven minutes left), my beloved alma mater Penn fell at Princeton 62-59. The Tigers remain unbeaten in Ivy League play at 5-0. ... In late-night action, San Diego State ran over Utah 85-53.
Women's college basketball: Remember how I didn't watch much of the Purdue game? It's because I watched No. 2 UConn battle to win a hard-fought game at No. 19 West Virginia. After trailing at the half, UConn's all-everything guard Maya Moore (27 points) put the team on her back and lifted the Huskies to a 57-51 win. UConn is now 11-0 in the Big East. No player currently on a Big East women's basketball roster has beaten UConn in her career. Amazing. ... No. 14 DePaul rebounded from its first Big East loss with an easy 77-61 win at Syracuse.
NBA: Dwight Howard obviously doesn't think too kindly of young Blake Griffin trying to steal the headlines. The Magic center had 22 points and 20 rebounds in Orlando's 101-85 win over the Clippers. Griffin finished with just 10 points and 12 rebounds. ... LeBron James made sure the Pacers winning streak ended at four as he poured in 41 points (along with 13 rebounds) in Miami's 117-112 win over Indiana, the Heat's seventh victory in a row. ... Kevin Durant scored 31 but the Thunder lost at home to the Grizzlies 105-101 in overtime. Zach Randolph had 31 points and 14 rebounds. ... Congratulations Kevin Love! The All-Star forward's 20 points and 14 rebounds not only helped the Timberwolves beat the Rockets 112-108, he became the first player in the NBA since Moses Malone in 1982-83 to record 38 consecutive double-doubles (and also set the franchise record). ... The Spurs continue to cruise along with an NBA-best 43-8 record after a 100-89 win at Detroit.
