Matinee madness

WNBA: East meets West in a matinee today when Connecticut (11-6) visits Los Angeles (7-11) (3 p.m.). The Sun stand in second place in the East and have won seven of their last 10 games. The Sparks are three games out of the postseason, but play 11 of their final 16 games at home.

MLB: We've got a full slate of action, including several day games, so check your local listings. Atlanta looks to avoid a three-game sweep at the Nationals (Brandon Beachy vs. Chien-Ming Wang, 1:05 p.m.). Braves second baseman Dan Uggla has a 24-game hitting streak. ... Jason Marquis makes his first start for Arizona as the Diamondbacks look to sweep the Giants at AT&T Park to take sole possession of first place in the NL West (Marquis vs. Ryan Vogelsong, 3:45 p.m.). Arizona right fielder Justin Upton has a 14-game hitting streak. ... The Cardinals sit just 2 1/2 games behind the NL Central-leading Brewers and look to pick up more ground this afternoon behind newly acquired Edwin Jackson (Jackson vs. Randy Wolf, 2:10 p.m.). & At age 45, Tim Wakefield goes for his 200th career win tonight when Boston hosts Cleveland (Carlos Carrasco vs. Wakefield, 7:10 p.m.). ... ESPN's "Wednesday Night Baseball" brings us the Yankees (five straight wins) at White Sox (four straight losses) (A.J. Burnett vs. Gavin Floyd, 8:10 p.m.).
