AUSTIN, Texas -- Olympic backstroke champion Matt Grevers won the 100-yard backstroke and Kevin Cordes won the 100 breaststroke, both with American records in the Winter Nationals on Friday night.

Grevers touched first in 44.55 seconds, lowering Ryan Lochte's old mark of 44.60 set in March 2006. Eugene Godsoe was second in 45.36 and Arkady Vyactchanin took third in 45.92.

Cordes' time of 51.10 in the breaststroke bettered his previous mark of 51.32 set last March. Mike Alexandrov was second in 51.62 and Olympian Clark Burckle took third in 51.99.

Missy Franklin, who won five medals at the London Games, won the 200 freestyle in 50.43 and returned later to capture the 100 back in 51.87. Christine Magnuson won the 100 butterfly in 51.86.

Olympian Ricky Berens won the 200 free in a meet-record 1 minute, 31.96 seconds. Joao De Lucca finished second in 1:32.57 and Lochte was third at 1:33.26 after leading halfway through the race.

Olympian Jessica Hardy finished third in the 100 breaststroke, with Laura Sogar winning her first national title.

The three-day meet at the University of Texas ends Saturday.
