WASHINGTON, D.C. -- "Every Picture Tells a Story."
That is the title of the espnW/Power of IX mosaic ,which was unveiled Thursday night to commemorate Saturday's 40th anniversary of Title IX, the landmark legislation that bans sex discrimination in schools, whether it be in athletics or academics.
During an interactive video projection watched by more than 150 invited guests from street level on Pennsylvania Avenue, photos from the mosaic were projected upon the Newseum's defining architectural feature, a 74-foot high First Amendment marble tablet on the front façade of the museum of news.
The mosaic's inspiration is to represent the beauty of sports -- the joys, triumphs, teamwork and spirit.
From the everyday female athlete to the elite, over 4,000 photos were collected with highlights coming from "Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts, Hall of Fame basketball coach Pat Summit and soccer legend Mia Hamm.
