The Environmentality Project at the ESPYS

ESPYS Sustainability Project (2:43)

A look behind the scenes from last year that shows how the ESPYS are more environmentally friendly than ever. (2:43)

ESPN's continually growing commitment to environmentally friendly initiatives will be showcased at the 2012 ESPYs, as the event--for the fourth consecutive year--will be carbon neutral. Additionally, the ESPYS will again be virtually waste-free through the implementation of stringent recycling and composting measures.

Virtually Waste-Free

For the 2012 ESPYS, Disney published a goal of 90% waste diversion for every event surrounding the awards show. This included two functions attended by over 3,000 people, the ESPN Celebrity Golf Classic, and all the hotels. ESPN accomplished this goal through innovative waste reduction and recovery strategies, strategic partnerships, ensuring proper lifecycle management of materials through careful procurement, and extensive recycling efforts.

In 2011, through comprehensive recycling, composting and responsible purchasing, the event generated half the total waste of the year before and 87% of all waste was diverted from the landfill. We will be posting our success at espn.com/espys.
