  • As the most dominant force in women's college basketball, Baylor's Brittney Griner led the Bears to the NCAA National Championship, capping off the first perfect 40-0 season in which she averaged 23.2 ppg, 9.4 rpg and more than five blocked shots per game
  • Maria Sharapova
  • Sharapova became the 10th woman to complete a career Grand Slam when she won the 2012 French Open singles title. She moved into the world No. 1 ranking after that victory, the fifth No. 1 stint in her career. Entering Wimbledon, Sharpova has a 2012 singles record of 36-5 and has reached the finals in six of the eight tournaments she has played.

  • America's greatest female alpine skier Lindsey Vonn continued to dominate the sport in 2012. Vonn, a two-time ESPY winner for Best Female Athlete, won her fourth World Cup title and set the record for the most World Cup points in a season.
  • Abby Wambach
  • At the 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany, American soccer star Abby Wambach scored a U.S.-record 13th career World Cup goal in the championship loss to Japan. Wambach also became the first player to score in all three knockout rounds in a single Women's World Cup and the first American woman to score in four straight World Cup games.
