No. 2 Oklahoma State was undefeated heading into the Nov. 18 matchup with Iowa State, but that was soon to end. The Cyclones scored 17 unanswered points over the final 25 minutes of regulation to send the game into overtime. A 4-yard rushing touchdown by running back Jeff Woody gave Iowa State the 37-31 win in double overtime and handed the Cowboys their only loss of the season.
Although they came into the postseason as an eighth seed, the Los Angeles Kings went 16-4 in the playoffs to claim the 2012 Stanley Cup championship. On their way to the Cup finals against the New Jersey Devils, the Kings disposed of the Western Conference's Nos. 1, 2 and 3 seeds.
No. 15 seed Lehigh faced No. 2 Duke in their opening game of the 2012 NCAA tournament and pulled off a stunning 75-70 upset in Greensboro, N.C. Prior to this season, only four previous No. 15 seeds had knocked off No. 2 seeds in 109 matchups. Duke's fall marked only its fourth first-game loss in 28 trips to the NCAA tournament under coach Mike Krzyzewski.
When Missouri entered its NCAA tournament game against Norfolk State (making its tournament debut), the Tigers brought with them a 30-4 season record and the Big 12 tournament championship. But the upstart Spartans shot 54 percent from the field and shocked the Tigers with a 86-84 victory. Norfolk State became the first school to win in its big dance premiere since Hampton in 2001.
