A little more than a month after submitting Bader, Jones faced light heayvweight champion Mauricio Rua. Jones, 23, entered extremely confident, sensing at a pre-fight media conference in New York that Rua was unsure of his chances. Whether or not that was true, Jones gave Rua reason to pause from the opening horn by breaking him with right hooks to the body and kicks to the head. He easily took Rua to the ground and pounded him mercilessly with elbows before finishing him in the third to cement himself among the top three pound-for-pound fighters.
