New kids on the block

While much of the world was watching Angel Cabrera hold off Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk to win his first career major at the U.S. Open on Sunday, three Generation Next-type players each made another leap toward the big time:

• Jamie Lovemark: Fresh off his freshman season at Southern Cal, Lovemark shot a final-round 65 in the Nationwide Tour's Rochester Area Charities Showdown to force a playoff with former Ryder Cupper Chris Riley before losing on the second extra hole.

"I really didn't know what to expect," Lovemark said. "This is the second-best tour in the world, and I learned a lot from playing with guys like this."
