Coach: Tiger Woods will win 22, 23 majors
From the "what do you expect him to say" department, Tiger Woods' new golf coach, Sean Foley, said Wednesday that he expects the world's No. 1 golfer to blow away Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major wins, according to the New York Times.
Foley offered a prediction on how many majors he thinks Woods will win.
"It's not a function of if he will break Jack's records, it's a matter of when," Foley told the Times. "Tiger is only 34. He's got basically 12 more years, and that's 48 more majors to win four [to tie Nicklaus]. I don't know how many majors he will win, but it's definitely more than 18.
"I'll go with 22 or 23."
This year, Woods came up empty at the majors, with his best finishes being a pair of T-4s at the Masters and the U.S. Open. He's been stuck on 14 majors since his 2008 U.S. Open victory on a broken leg at Torrey Pines.
The 2011 major venues are Augusta National (Masters), Congressional Country Club (U.S. Open), Royal St. George's (British Open) and Atlanta Athletic Club (PGA Championship.)
Foley made the statement at a gathering in New York where it was announced the Orlando-based coach will be a contributor to Golf Digest magazine.
