Devices can't be used in British Open

Finding the exact yardage for a golf shot in some competitions just got easier Monday.

The Royal & Ancient, which governs the rules of golf outside the United States and Mexico, announced that distance measuring devices like laser-guided range finders, would be allowed in their amateur events in 2014.

The R&A stressed that it would not apply to the year's third major, the Open Championship, or any qualifying events for the Open.
