Mobile phones allowed at Open

KOHLER, Wis. -- USGA officials are allowing mobile phones on the course during this week's U.S. Women's Open at Blackwolf Run, letting fans stay connected despite the risk of a ring disrupting a player's backswing.

The USGA has not allowed fans to bring phones to major championship tournaments in the past.

The USGA's Ben Kimball says allowing phones will be a new experience, "But we hope it's going to be a pleasant one."
