Tiger Woods to anchor singles

MEDINAH, Ill. -- The Americans wrote the book on the biggest comeback in Ryder Cup history. Even so, European captain Jose Maria Olazabal won't have to consult it. He was there.

Just like the U.S. team at the "Battle of Brookline" in 1999, the Europeans are staring at a 10-6 deficit. But because they hold the cup, they need only eight points to retain it, instead of the 8½ the Americans carved out of the dozen singles matches on the final day.
