Jason Dufner cards 8-over 80
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The last time he walked off a green at a major championship, Jason Dufner was the winner, later hoisting the Wanamaker Trophy last August at Oak Hill Country Club, where he won the PGA Championship.
It wasn't quite the same feeling Thursday.
Dufner shot 80 at Augusta National that included a 9 at the par-5 13th.
Dufner made 12 pars, but the 13th ruined his round. He hit his second shot over the green, then chipped across the putting surface and into the creek that fronts the green.
He was able to play the shot, but hit it poorly, and the ball came back into the hazard.
From there, he took a drop and hit another poor chip for his sixth, knocked his seventh on the green and then two-putted for the quadruple-bogey 9.
"I just missed (my spot) to the left by a couple of yards," Dufner said of his second shot. "I hit a pretty good chip into the water. I elected to play it out, had a decent lie.
"The margins are very small. Miss a shot and you're going to make a bogey or a double ... or in some cases a 9."
