Jose Maria Olazabal cuts assistants
FUNCHAL, Madeira -- European Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal plans to cut the number of vice captains to two for the title defense against the United States in September.
The Spaniard says although U.S. captain Davis Love III will likely have four assistants, "it's a lot of headaches if you have more than two."
Paul McGinley looks certain to be one for the event at Medinah Country Club near Chicago from Sept. 28-30 after Olazabal said he like his handling of the past two Seve Trophy-winning sides.
Olazabal also says three-time major winner Padraig Harrington, who hasn't won on either side of the Atlantic in more than three years, needs to find form.
Olazabal says "for players like Harrington the ball is still in his court."
