Under par but not victorious, Rory McIlroy leaves Players still frustrated

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Before this week's Players Championship, Rory McIlroy categorized TPC Sawgrass as "frustrating." After four under-par rounds, he left Sunday afternoon using the same word.

McIlroy posted scores of 69-71-70-70 to contend for his first Players title but fell short once again on a tightly packed leaderboard.

"Leaving frustrated again," he said. "It's just that sort of course. You look at the scores out there; no one is going low. ... I've left between five and 10 shots out there this week."

The world's No. 1 player was pleased with his ballstriking throughout the week but missed seven putts of 10 feet or less.

"A lot of positives to take from tee to green," McIlroy said. "Just need to go home over the next couple of days and work on my putting a little bit, and hopefully it will be a bit better for next week."

McIlroy will play the Wells Fargo Championship starting Thursday, part of a streak that will see him compete in five straight events between the PGA and European tours.
