Jamie Donaldson out of Abu Dhabi Championship after chainsaw accident

Jamie Donaldson has been forced to put the start of his 2016 season on hold after he suffered an injury to his hand in a freak accident involving a chainsaw.

Donaldson, who hit what turned out to be the winning shot of the 2014 Ryder Cup, showed off his the cut on the little finger of his left hand via his Twitter account.

The 40-year-old Welshman is not the first golfer to come to blows with a chainsaw. In 2014, Australian legend Greg Norman described himself as "one lucky man" after a similar accident.

Donaldson had been due to play this week's Abu Dhabi Golf Championship -- a tournament he won in 2013 and earned a top 10 finish last year -- but his tweet suggests he'll now join the Desert Swing at the Dubai Desert Classic, which begins on Feb. 4.

Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy will tee off his 2016 season at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, where he will be joined by world No.1 Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler.
