Jason Day (flu) still plans to compete in Farmers Insurance Open

Defending champion Jason Day will miss the Wednesday pro-am at this week's Farmers Insurance Open because of flu-like symptoms, according to tournament officials.

Day, the world's second-ranked player, will still compete in the event starting Thursday. He is paired with J.B. Holmes and Harris English in the first two rounds. They will play Torrey Pines' North Course starting at 12:20 p.m. ET.

On Friday, the grouping will tee it up at Torrey Pines' more difficult South Course beginning at 1:20 p.m. ET.

Coming off a T-10 finish at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions three weeks ago, Day holds a very slight edge on that No. 2 ranking over Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy.

Day won the first of his five PGA Tour titles in 2015 at Torrey Pines.
