Ben Campbell grabs 36-hole lead
SINGAPORE -- Ben Campbell, a 20-year-old from New Zealand, has the lead nearing the midway point of the Asian Amateur Championship at The Singapore Island Country Club.
Campbell shot a 66 on Friday -- his second straight bogey-free round -- and is 11 under and three shots clear of the field through 36 holes. Rain left 30 players on the course; they will finish their rounds Saturday morning before the final cut is made.
Campbell leads Malaysia's Kenneth Christian John De Silva, who is 8 under with three holes left in his second round.
In the clubhouse at 7 under are first-round leader Lee Soo-min of Korea and Australia's Cameron Smith. Defending champion Hideki Matsuyama is at 6 under.
The winner of the event earns a spot in the field at the 2012 Masters.
Also on Friday, the Masters, the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation and the R&A announced that the November 2012 event will be played at Amata Spring Country Club in Chonburi, Thailand.
