The Nationwide Tour will make its first official foray into Chile with a tournament in 2012.
The Chile Classic, presented by Pacific Rubiales, will be held March 8-11 at Prince of Wales Country Club in Santiago. A field of 144 players will compete for a $600,000 purse.
The tournament will have several spots reserved for Latin America golfers, with the top four money-winners from the 2011 Tour de Las Americas Order of Merit earning exemptions to the event.
There also will be eight unrestricted sponsor's exemptions, including six designated for players from Latin America.
With golf making its return to the Olympics at 2016 Rio de Janeiro, organizers view the tournament as a way to increase interest in the sport prior to the Games.
