Tiger Woods is heading to some familiar territory to begin his 2013 PGA Tour schedule, announcing Wednesday on his website that he has committed to the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego beginning Jan. 24.
The 37-year-old Woods, who will play his first tournament of 2013 next week at the European Tour's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in United Arab Emirates, has won six PGA Tour titles at Torrey Pines, as well as the 2008 U.S. Open in a playoff against Rocco Mediate.
Woods skipped the PGA Tour event there last year for the first time when healthy because it conflicted with the Abu Dhabi tournament, where he tied for third. This year he will travel across 12 time zones to play in Southern California after competing in the Middle East.
"Obviously, I've had good success at Torrey Pines," said Woods, who won the PGA Tour event there in 1999, 2003, '05, '06, '07 and '08.
In 12 appearances in the tour event at Torrey Pines, Woods has been out of the top 10 just once, a tie for 44th two years ago.
