Mississippi event gets new sponsors
The PGA Tour's annual stop in Mississippi will again have a title sponsor for the 2013 tournament after going without one for the 2012 event.
The Sanderson Farms Championship, formerly the True South Classic, will be played July 18-21 at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss., as an opposite-field event. The tournament will be contested on the same dates as the Open Championship being held at Muirfield in Scotland.
The PGA Tour said in a statement that it would discuss a "possible longer-term relationship" with Sanderson Farms corporation after this year's event wraps up.
The tournament was known as the Viking Classic from 2007-11 and in 2012 used a consortium of local sponsors to keep the event afloat as it was renamed the True South Classic. Those sponsors will still be affiliated with the tournament, according to the PGA Tour.
Scott Stallings won the 2012 True South Classic.
