Basketball Hall of Famer Jerry West will step down from his duties as executive director of the PGA Tour's Northern Trust Open effective immediately.

No reason was given for his departure, but West did say his time running the event was "a highlight of my career."

"My goal was to help elevate the tournament as a way to give back to the city that has given me so much," West said in a statement. "Thanks to an incredible team, a dedicated title sponsor and through the support of the entire Los Angeles community, I'm so proud of how we've brought L.A. together to increase awareness of the Northern Trust Open, grow its charitable impact and shine a light on the needs of the community."

West, who was executive director since May 2010, will be replaced by O.D. Vincent, a former UCLA men's coach who was most recently the senior associate director of athletics at the University of Washington.

Vincent, who also led the golf programs at Duke and Washington, coached reigning Northern Trust Open champion John Merrick at UCLA.

The 2014 Northern Trust Open will be held at Riviera Country Club from Feb. 12-16.
