Reds wrap up in Colorado
GOLDEN. COLO. --The third and final tryout for the Cincinnati Reds took place in one of the most beautiful cities West of the Mississippi, Golden, Colorado. Home to one of the finest institutions in the nation, the Colorado School of Mines was host of the Area Code Tryout on a picture perfect clear, 75 degree day. In the smallest of the three tryouts, which is the normal occurrence for the Reds tryouts, there was still some talent to be seen.
Casey Burns, Grand Junction High School (Grand Junction, Colo.), is a well-built athlete who covers a ton of ground at the shortstop position. Standing in at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, Burns has a projectable body for the future. He offers good gap power, good instincts on the field and is a high-energy player.
T.J. Garhart, Poudre High School (Fort Collins, Colo), is a great all around athlete who plays shortstop as well as pitcher. On the mound at the tryout, Garhart threw the hardest of the day touching 90 mph. Built like a linebacker at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, he still has a lot of room to fill.
Adam Gauthier, Highlands High School (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), was one of the handful of catchers on the day and impressed with his overall skills. He showed good footwork, solid catch and throw skills and displayed a solid arm with good accuracy.
Stephen Baldwin, Grand Junction High School (Grand Junction, Colo.), has been around this atmosphere before as his brother Geoffrey attended the Area Code Games back in 2008. While his brother was know more for his power bat, Stephen is known for his craftiness on the mound. Sitting between 86-88, he showed good control and a projectable body for the future.
Jordan Schleuber, Grandview High School (Aurora, Colo.), showed one of the best bats of the day. Mostly a pull hitter, Schleuber has good power and strong hands. Also known as a football recruit, this dual sport threat made a solid impression on the diamond.
With the Cincinnati Reds Area Code tryouts now complete, it is time for the team to be compiled and have the rosters released within the next week.
