We've broken down the state's top 20 players into two teams -- one of position players and one of pitchers. Keep in mind, these preseason selections were determined by a combination of in-season performance and recruit rankings.

POSITION PLAYERS


Anthony Alford, Petal, OF/SS, Senior
Signed with Southern Miss to play QB but could be selected early in June's MLB draft.

Cort Brinson, Oak Grove, C, Senior
Hit nearly .500 last season and also chipped in 15 doubles and 49 RBI.

Cody Brown, Biloxi, SS/RHP, Senior
Mississippi State signee hit .436 last year and swiped 28 bags.

Colton Caver, Gulfport, OF, Senior
One of the best pure power hitters in the state.

LeDarious Clark, SE Lauderdale, OF, Senior
Undersized but extremely strong, Clark popped nine HRs last spring and added 38 RBI.

D.J. Davis, Stone, OF, Senior
Speed is Davis' best tool, but he can do a little bit of everything on the diamond.

Garrett LaRosa, Long Beach, C/RHP, Senior
Versatile star impacts every facet of the game for the Bearcats.

Chase Nyman, Pascagoula, SS, Senior
Ole Miss pledge hit at a .359 clip last spring and added five long balls.

Tyler Odom, Oak Grove, OF/3B/RHP, Senior
Contributed 37 RBI while hitting .424 in 2011.

Dalton Todd, Lewisburg, C, Senior
Hit .286 as a junior, but he walked enough to raise his OBP to .524.

Ben Aldridge, Tupelo, RHP/OF/1B, Senior
Won four games and saved three more while striking out 67 in 54 innings last spring.

Zach Bird, Murrah, RHP/SS, Senior
Imposing 6-foot-4 righty also boasts pinpoint control; signed with Southern Miss.

Matt Denny, Jackson Academy, LHP/OF/1B, Senior
Set school records last season in strikeouts (101), home runs (12) and RBI (56).

Hunter Devall, Centreville Academy, LHP/OF/1B, Senior
LSU signee was 11-1 with a 0.76 ERA last spring, adding 136 K's in 74 innings.

Myles Gentry, Gulfport, RHP/SS, Senior
Been an impact player for the Admirals since his freshman year.

Reid Humphreys, Northwest Rankin, RHP/SS, Junior
The state's top prospect from the junior class, Humphreys has pledged to Mississippi State.

Zach Irwin, Madison Central, LHP/1B, Senior
Ole Miss pledge went 8-1 with a 1.48 ERA; added 10 HRs and 40 RBI on offense.

Blake McMullen, SE Lauderdale, RHP/SS, Senior
Lethal at the plate and even better on the mound.

Jacob Shempert, Oak Hill Academy, RHP/C, Senior
Mississippi State pledge has big-time potential on the bump and at the plate.

Jake Winston, Trinity Episcopal, RHP/SS, Senior
Ace of the reigning Class A state champs, Winston went 9-1 and fanned 102 in 59.1 innings.
