Duncan finds a home at Parkville
As a freshman, Lakeem Duncan played at Archbishop Carroll (Washington, D.C.). As a sophomore he attended Oxon Hill (Md.) and last year as a junior he was back at Archbishop Carroll.
This year, Duncan will be a senior at Parkville High School (Baltimore) after having an outstanding summer playing in The Rock Summer League at High Point High School (Beltsville, Md.).
"We should have a pretty good team up there," Duncan said of his new team. "We have some good players back and I just hope to fit in and add the rest of the things that the team needs to win. So far, to me, it looks like it is going to be a good fit for me."
The 6-foot-6 small forward fit in during the all-star game at The Rock on July 13. The senior scored 19 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, blocked three shots and impressed the crowd with his athleticism and versatility.
As a junior at Carroll, Duncan averaged 10 points and eight rebounds against tough Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) competition.
Duncan does not have any firm college scholarship offers yet, but is starting to hear from several Division I colleges.
"I've heard from Lehigh, George Mason University, Old Dominion, Robert Morris, UMBC and Temple," Duncan said. "It's early, but I'm hearing from some good schools already."
"I want to the play the 3 in college," Duncan added. "I think I might be able to even play some 2 in college. I've had to play center and forward in high school because of my height, and I don't mind doing it -- I'm good inside -- but I want to be more a perimeter guy in college."
With Duncan joining a talented nucleus of players from a Parkville squad that went 12-9 last year, the Knights could be serious contenders for a Maryland state championship in 2009-2010.
