Barnes joins nine other seniors, including fellow North Carolina recruit Reggie Bullock of Kinston (Kinston, N.C.).

The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced its initial 10 candidates last week. In February, a national voting academy will narrow the list down to five candidates. The Atlanta Tipoff Club will then name the Naismith winner at the end of the season.

Dennis Scott of Flint Hill Prep (Oakton, Va.) won the first Naismith High School Player of the Year award in 1987 before going onto Georgia Tech and the NBA. South Atlanta (Atlanta, Ga.) big man Derrick Favors, who's now at Georgia Tech, won the award last year.

Below is the Atlanta Tipoff Club's watch list, which includes nine players who received votes in the first ESPN RISE Mr. Basketball Tracker. As a fifth-year player, Will Barton is not eligible for postseason honors handed out by the editors of ESPN RISE.
