Naperville Central big winner in Week 2

ESPN will release the ESPN RISE FAB 50 national boys' soccer rankings each Tuesday of the regular season and playoffs, continuing through the final games of the various state playoffs around the nation. For the state-by-state rankings, click here.

Rockhurst Jesuit (Mo.), St. Xavier (Ky.) and Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) show they are more than single-sport schools. The three private schools hold the distinction as being the only schools with teams in the ESPN Rise FAB 50 for football and soccer.

The big mover in this week's rankings is Naperville Central, which defeated former No. 6 Neuqua Valley 2-1 to claim the Best of the West title Saturday. The teams square off again this week in a regular-season match.

3 St. Xavier (Louisville, Ky.) 5-0-0 3 St. Xavier surrendered its first goal of the season in a 6-1 win over Shelby County. The team is averaging six goals per outing. St. Xavier faces Providence (Ind.) this week, its second out-of-state opponent this fall.
4 Martin Luther King (Manhattan, N.Y.) 0-0-0 4 MLK starts regular-season play Tuesday against Lab Museum. The team's first key match will be a Sept. 20 showdown with St. John the Baptist.
5 Sacramento Jesuit (Carmichael, Calif.) 6-0-0 5 Jesuit traveled to Portland last weekend and handled two of Oregon's best teams by a combined 6-0 margin. Coach Paul Rose says this team might be more talented than the school's 2003 FAB 50 No. 1 squad.
6 Brentwood (Brentwood, N.Y.) 1-0-0 7 Joseph Lopez and John Orgeta each had a goal and one assist as Brentwood pinned a 4-1 defeat on West Islip.
7 St. Benedict's (Newark, N.J.) 0-0-0 8 St. Benedict's starts regular-season play Wednesday against Northfield-Mt. Hermon (Mass.).
8 Naperville Central (Naperville, Ill.) 7-0-0 47 Naperville Central vaults into the national title chase after claiming the Best of the West tournament title with a 2-1 victory over former No. 6 Neuqua Valley. Jerry Maddi, who scored the first goal, shook off an injury to help nail down the victory.
9 Davis (Davis, Calif.) 3-0-0 11 Davis has scored 20 goals in its first three matches this season, but bigger tests are upcoming, including a Sept. 13 showdown with FAB 50-ranked Vintage.
10 New Trier (Winnetka, Ill.) 3-0-0 12 New Trier remains No. 2 in Illinois, trailing Naperville Central in both the Chicago Sun-Times and ESPN RISE Illinois rankings.
11 Marquette University (Milwaukee, Wis.) 6-0-0 13 Marquette continues its in-state domination with a pair of 6-0 wins over Wauwatosa East and Middleton.
12 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) 0-0-0 14 Roy Nygren has built Don Bosco Prep into a perennial state title challenger. The Ironmen opens regular-season play this week.
13 Christian Brothers (St. Louis, Mo.) 4-0-0 15 CBC routed Canterbury Prep (Ind.) and Cedarburg (Wis.) by 7-1 margins last week, and has yet to play a match closer than three goals.
14 Downingtown West (Downingtown, Pa.) 2-0-0 17 Penn State commit Brian Forgue has anchored a defense that shutout both opponents this season.
15 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) 4-0-0 16 DeMatha figures to be tested by Gonzaga (D.C.) for the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title. Both teams are off to 4-0-0 starts.
16 Chaminade (Mineola, N.Y.) 1-0-0 19 Donald Anding had a goal and one assist in Chaminade's 3-0 victory over Hicksville.
17 St. Anthony's (Melville, N.Y.) 2-0-0 20 Keith Jecewiz netted the lone goal as St. Anthony's slipped past Massapequa.
18 Eldorado (Albuquerque, N.M.) 5-0-0 NR Devin Sandoval had two goals and a pair of assists as Eldorado posted wins over former No. 10 La Cueva and FAB 50-ranked St. Pius.
19 Broomfield (Broomfield, Colo.) 2-0-0 21 Garret Seitz has a team-high five goals as the state's top-ranked Class 4A program appears to be the state's overall No. 1 team.
20 Lincoln (Portland, Ore.) 2-0-0 22 Lincoln has a pair of 1-0 wins to start the season.
21 TC Roberson (Asheville, N.C.) 7-0-0 23 TC Roberson has shut out its first seven opponents. The team's big win over Broughton is not looking as compelling this week since Broughton, the preseason FAB 50 No. 1, lost for the second time this season.
22 Westhill (Stamford, Conn.) 0-0-0 24 Westhill begins regular-season play Thursday at Trinity Catholic.
23 Westfield (Westfield, Ind.) 6-0-0 25 Westfield defeated Pike and Lawrence Central at the Carmel Tournament on Saturday to secure its state No. 1 ranking.
24 Sylvania Northview (Sylvania, Ohio) 5-0-0 28 A state semifinalist last year, Northview is off to a hot start in 2008. The team is 27-3-0 in its last 30 outings.
25 Plymouth Salem (Canton, Mich.) 8-0-0 NR Salem added the East Lansing Tournament title to its resume, the second invitational crown this season for the state's top-ranked team.
