NFSC tour heads to Philly
The 2012 Nike Football SPARQ Combine tour comes to Philadelphia on Sunday
2012 Nike Football SPARQ Combine Trailer
PHILADELPHIA -- The Nike Football SPARQ Combine tour makes its second stop of the 2012 season this Sunday at the home of the Philadelphia Eagles. The event marks the third straight year that ESPNHS heads to the land of cheese steaks to potentially discover the next great recruits from the Tri-State area.
Last year's combine saw over 800 football athletes attend and this year should see even more participants test and compete. The big question is will ESPNHS find a player worthy of an invite to The Opening presented by Nike Football? This particular region was well represented last year in Oregon with a handful of players coming out of New Jersey.
Maybe the biggest name expected to attend is ESPNU 150 Watchlist linebacker Holland Fisher out of Clover Hill (Midlothian, Va.). Fisher has been causing havoc on the football field ever since his freshmen year and continues to produce every fall. Schools have already come calling with the likes of Maryland, North Carolina, Purdue, Tennessee and both in-state powers Virginia and Virginia Tech extending offers. Don't be surprised if the linebacker posts the top rating at the event.
One player we are expecting to do very well and make a huge improvement on his results from a year ago is linebacker Alex Anzalone from Wyoming Area (Exeter, Pa.). At the 2011 Baltimore combine, Anzalone posted a respectable 79.86 SPARQ rating on a cold and rainy day. An All-State Selection this past year, Anzalone has picked up offers from Boston College, Maryland, Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers and Syracuse. It will be interesting to see how much of an improvement the linebacker makes and how many schools take notice afterwards.
