Mobile SPARQ All-Combine team

MOBILE, Ala. -- The Gulf Coast region represented well at Lipscomb Park Stadium on Sunday as over 1,300 athletes attended the Mobile Nike Football SPARQ Combine. While many had great performances, only 24 were good enough to make the All-Combine team.

Note: Selections are based upon combine performance as well as past and projected on-field performance. Athletes must have completed two of the four combine tests to be eligible for selection. Athletes are in the Class of 2013 unless otherwise noted.

OFFENSE

QB: Jacob Martinez, 5-11.5, 176, Bozeman (Panama City, Fla.)

Results: 4.68 40, 4.16 SH, 32-5 PB, 34.3 VJ, 92.76 SPARQ

Breakdown: Dual-threat quarterback racked up 2,100 yards of offense and 25 touchdowns en route to Class 1A Second Team All-State honors.

RB: Devaun Swafford, 5-10, 175, Dobyns-Bennett (Kingsport, Tenn.)

Results: 4.80 40, 4.16 SH, 37-0 PB, 32.2 VJ, 93.00 SPARQ

Breakdown: Improved SPARQ Rating 14 points from last year behind ultra-quick shuttle time.

RB: Kobe McCrary (2014), 5-11, 208, Chipley (Fla.)

Results: 4.86 40, 4.47 SH, 35-0 PB, 32.1 VJ, 83.13 SPARQ

Breakdown: Strong runner who lines up all over the field for Chipley. Has proven to e solid defender as well.

WR: Tony Whitehead, 6-1.5, 202, Paul Bryant (Cottondale, Ala.)

Results: 4.69 40, 4.44 SH, 36-5 PB, 28.2 VJ, 85.50 SPARQ

Breakdown: Hauled in 51 passes for almost 1,000 yards and 17 scores; Mississippi State offered last month following a Junior Day visit.

WR: Deangelo Yancey, 6-1, 200, Mays (Atlanta)

Results: 4.59 40, 4.72 SH, 39-5 PB, 31.3 VJ, 91.95 SPARQ

Breakdown: Slip in the shuttle cost Yancey a higher rating; finished junior year with 561 yards receiving and seven touchdowns.

WR: Jarren Johnson, 5-10, 192, Jackson-Olin (Jackson, Ala.)

Results: 4.67 40, 4.40 SH, 33-0 PB, 35.0 VJ, 89.79 SPARQ

Breakdown: Snagged 66 passes for 1,076 yards and thirteen touchdowns; Arkansas State and Troy have offered the athletic wideout.

TE: O.J. Howard, 6-5.5, 224, Autauga Academy (Prattville, Ala.)

Results: 4.63 40, 4.44 SH, 38-5 PB, 33.2 VJ, 104.22 SPARQ

Breakdown: Bama commit lived up to the hype with combine's top rating, which was good enough to secure an invite for Nike's The Opening.

OL: Tanner Crow, 6-4.5, 274, Bay (Panama City, Fla.)

Results: 5.70 40, 5.22 SH, 38-5 PB, 20.9 VJ, 60.09 SPARQ

Breakdown: Showed his upper body strength with great powerball toss; Louisville has offered this emerging tackle from the Panhandle.

OL: James Williams, 6-2, 305, Williamson (Mobile, Ala.)

Results: 5.55 40, 5.06 SH, 37-0 PB, 23.4 VJ, 70.32 SPARQ

Breakdown: Interior stalwart increased rating almost twenty points from last year.

OL: Nicholas Haynes, 6-2, 279, Niceville (Fla.)

Results: 5.37 40, 5.50 SH, 38-5 PB, 24.0 VJ, 66.93 SPARQ

Breakdown: Converted tight end has filled out his frame and could develop into a solid tackle down the road.

OL: Wilson Bell, 6-4, 287, Blount (Eight Mile, Ala.)

Results: 5.80 40, 5.53 SH, 31-5 PB, 19.1 VJ, 44.64 SPARQ

Breakdown: Not his best day testing, but has ideal tackle measureables with great reach and upside. He recently attended Auburn's Junior Day.

ATH: JeVontey Smith, 6-1, 184, Greensboro (Ala.)

Results: 4.69 40, 4.22 SH, 33-0 PB, 31.9 VJ, 88.89 SPARQ

Breakdown: Class 3A Honorable Mention All-State after posting four receiving touchdowns and one kick return for a score and added 116 yards rushing.

DEFENSE

DL: Gerald Willis (2014), 6-2, 254, Edna Karr (New Orleans, La.)

Results: N/A 40, N/A SH, 30-5 PB, 26.0 VJ, N/A SPARQ

Breakdown: Nice vertical for the 254-pounder with early offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, and Nebraska among others.

DL: Chandler Burkett, 6-3.5, 222, Bozeman (Panama City, Fla.)

Results: 4.77 40, 4.63 SH, 32-0 PB, 30.4 VJ, 76.80 SPARQ

Breakdown: High-energy rusher who has registered 53 career tackles for loss.

DL: Brian Slater, 6-0.5, 254, St. Paul's Episcopal (Mobile, Ala.)

Results: 5.29 40, 4.78 SH, 36-0 PB, 28.1 VJ, 71.49 SPARQ

Breakdown: Stout defensive lineman likes in-state powers Alabama and Auburn.

LB: Delvin Purifoy (2014), 6-2, 212, Pensacola Catholic (Pensacola, Fla.)

Results: 4.70 40, 5.04 SH, 35-5 PB, 35.3 VJ, 84.03 SPARQ

Breakdown: Gifted athlete that collected 75 tackles as a sophomore.

LB: Jamal Lucas, 5-11, 204, Hoover (Ala.)

Results: 4.77 40, 4.41 SH, 36-0 PB, 32.6 VJ, 89.43 SPARQ

Breakdown: Middle linebacker registered 63 solo tackles and two fumble recoveries in 2011; reports interest from Georgia.

LB: Larry Cage, 6-2, 189, Zachary (La.)

Results: 4.69 40, 4.34 SH, 35-0 PB, 32.3 VJ, 89.55 SPARQ

Breakdown: Defensive back ability at the linebacker spot; attended both Houston and Mobile combines and clocked 4.6 in the 40 consistently each day.

LB: Tre Williams (2014), 6-1.5, 217, St. Paul's Episcopal (Mobile, Ala.)

Results: 4.93 40, 4.78 SH, 31-5 PB, 29.3 VJ, 65.28 SPARQ

Breakdown: Didn't run his best, but the 217-pound 'backer produces on Friday nights; Alabama, Auburn, and Florida State have extended early offers.

DB: John Marvin, 6-1, 188, Fort Walton Beach (Fla.)

Results: 4.66 40, 4.25 SH, 33-0 PB, 36.3 VJ, 96.72 SPARQ

Breakdown: Sports five offers, inlcluding FIU, Louisville, Troy, USF, and Western Michigan.

DB: David Akintonde, 5-6.5 161, Pensacola Catholic (Pensacola, Fla.)

Results: 4.56 40, 4.18 SH, 31-5 PB, 38.6 VJ, 98.64 SPARQ

Breakdown: Attended the Hawaii Nike Combine last month and posted the top vertical in Honolulu and again in Mobile. While he's not the biggest at 5-foot-6 1/2, Akintonde is very explosive.

DB: Brandon Padgett, 5-11, 172, Pearl River Central (Carriere, Miss.)

Results: 4.67 40, 4.32 SH, 34-0 PB, 34.4 VJ, 89.13 SPARQ

Breakdown: Tallied over 130 tackles to go with four interceptions and three fumble recoveries this past fall.

DB: Luke Davis, 6-1, 194, Hewitt Trussville (Trussville, Ala.)

Results: 4.80 40, 4.34 SH, 35-5 PB, 30.7 VJ, 85.20 SPARQ

Breakdown: Rangy under-the-radar safety with nice size who should start to receive interest with solid outings on the offseason camp and combine trail.

ATH: Kylen Towner, 5-6.5, 167, St. Paul's Episcopal (Mobile, Ala.)

Results: 4.57 40, 4.38 SH, 33-0 PB, 35.3 VJ, 89.64 SPARQ

Breakdown: Diminutive defensive back is a weapon in the return game with his 4.5 speed.
