Quarterback Derek Carr from Bakersfield Christian High School (Calif.) has become accustomed to the bright lights, but now the spotlight is on him, as he is the latest ESPN RISE National Football Player of the Week.

Derek is the younger brother of David Carr, former No. 1 NFL draft pick out of Fresno State (now backing up Eli Manning with the New York Giants). Derek had a season-high 441 yards through the air and threw three TD passes last week in Bakersfield Christian's 40-35 win over Tehachapi.

In his first game of the season, Derek had 280 yards when Bakersfield Christian lost its only game -- to Oaks Christian of Westlake Village, which was led by Joe Montana's son Nick at quarterback. Also on hand for that game were Oaks Christian parents Will Smith (the actor), Wayne Gretzky (the hockey legend) and Pat Hill (the Fresno State head coach, where Derek Carr has committed).

This week's full list of ESPN RISE regional players of the week follows.

East Region Football Player of the Week

David Wilson (George Washington, Danville, Va.): He's in the ESPNU 150 as a running back, and Friday he had 23 carries for 349 yards and three TDs in his team's 28-21 victory over Franklin County. Wilson had 332 yards in one game earlier this year, and this is the second time he's broken the school record. He has committed to Virginia Tech.

Southeast Region Football Player of the Week

Jeremy Wright (East Ridge, Clermont, Fla.): A bubble kid on the recruiting front, Wright was spectacular with 25 carries for 455 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-31 win over Wekiva. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Wright's total is a new Central Florida record and is No. 3 all-time for the state. Wright's touchdowns were on runs of 6, 64, 72 and 73 yards. He is considering UConn, where former teammate Greg Lloyd is a sophomore linebacker.

Midwest Region Football Player of the Week

Charlie Goro (Maine South, Park Ridge, Ill.): The 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback passed for five touchdowns for the second straight game as the FAB 50-ranked Hawks blanked Niles West, 52-0. Goro, a Vanderbilt recruit, completed 13 of 19 passes for 247 yards and five scores for the undefeated Hawks, which play Stevenson in the first round of the state Class 8A playoffs. In the last two regular-season games, Goro completed 40 of 61 passes for 716 yards and 10 TDs. On the season, Goro has 2,091 passing yards and 28 scores.

Southwest Region Football Player of the Week

Jerry Lopez (Alexander, Laredo, Texas): He's a prolific passer but isn't mentioned as a notable recruit. The senior QB this week completed 33 of 41 passes for 453 yards and seven TDs in a 51-6 win over Winn. In his first game, Lopez threw 76 passes, completing 37, for 480 yards in a 38-28 loss to Carroll. In another game, he was 46 of 63 for 591 yards and eight TDs in a 70-35 win over Laredo Martin. Lopez has played just eight games and already has nearly 3,000 yards for the season.

West Region Football Player of the Week

Derek Carr: Also named National Football Player of the Week.
