Frank Tamakloe is getting his time to shine
The Good Counsel defensive backfield boasted several Division I-A recruits this past season. Unfortunately for the rest of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC), many of those recruits were only juniors.
The 6-foot-3, 189-pound Tamakloe already holds offers from Wisconsin, North Carolina and North Carolina State.
"He's just that prototypical strong safety. How many times will you see a guy 6-3, 6-4 at strong safety that has speed like that, but will also come down and take someone's head off?" defensive line coach Kevin McFadden said.
"N.C. State said that he could have played for them last year," McFadden added.
Tamakloe alternated with fellow junior Schmidt this past season, but when Schmidt went down with a knee injury, Tamakloe stepped into the starter's role full-time.
For his senior season, Tamakloe is expected receive more playing time at strong safety and possibly play some receiver for the Falcons.
Tamakloe has been a star waiting to shine for a couple of seasons. With Division I-caliber talent such as Mike Wallace (Penn State) and senior Durrell Miller ahead of him on the depth chart, the underclassman had to wait his turn.
"Me and coach [Steve] Ghent, the linebackers coach, knew from beginning he was going to be special," McFadden said. "He had to be coached a little bit more. We took him to the side and coached him up -- to this day I meet with him on Saturdays, getting him right. He's always had that athletic ability."
Now colleges are noticing him and, according to McFadden, like much of what they see.

Tamakloe maintains a 3.7 GPA and, according to McFadden, is currently running 4.4-second 40-yard dashes.
Colleges are recruiting Tamakloe as a safety and, to help improve his ability, he is expected to attend several offseason camps specifically for defensive backs.
