With 21 of 25 preseason teams winning their opening games, two losing each by seven points to other state-ranked opponents and one team idle, there was not much room for new blood in this week's state rankings.

Now that a few results have replaced preseason hype, a couple of teams shifted in the ranking order, but 24 or 25 remain the same as last week. The lone newcomer is Wilde Lake, which checks in just in time for this week's showdown with No. 10 River Hill.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 8 -- Week 1 Poll

Compiled by Sheldon Shealer.

The poll is based on a state-wide voting of sports reporters. The 2009 season marks the 20th year of the official media state poll in Maryland.

Schools are ranked by points received. The number in parenthesis reflects first-place votes. LW is last week's ranking.
