During the mid-1990s, Patterson was a fixture in the state rankings.

In fact, under then-coach Roger Wrenn, now at Poly, Patterson spent the entire 1994 and 1995 seasons in the Top 25, climbing as high as No. 2 prior to the 1994 state playoffs.

The Clippers' fortunes forever changed, though, with a 1996 season-opening loss to Poly. Patterson, which went into the season ranked No. 9 in the state, fell out of the rankings and have not made a return appearance. Well, not until this week.

Just as a surprise loss bumped Patterson from state view in 1996, an even bigger victory early in 2009 allows the Clippers back. Patterson stunned Dunbar 37-20 last week, ending Dunbar's win streak against Baltimore City programs, which stood at 25 games. The win moves Patterson to No. 24 in this week's MDVarsity, com Media State Poll.

The other newcomer to this week's Top 25 is McDonogh, giving the MIAA four teams in the rankings -- the most of any conference.
