A quarterback who celebrated his birthday had a career night and a Virginia running back had a record-setting performance to highlight the ESPN RISE Regional Players of the Week.

East Region Player of the Week
Michael Holmes (Harrisonburg, Va.)
The 6-foot, 195-pound junior rushed for 413 yards and eight TDs on 20 carries in Harrisonburg's 69-27 victory over Robert E. Lee (Staunton, Va.). The eight TDs tied a state record. The Blue Streaks also ended up rushing for a state-record 662 yards. They beat the previous record by more than 100 yards. If Harrisonburg sounds familiar, the school is the alma mater of legendary prep basketball center Ralph Sampson. Holmes had 390 yards and all eight TDs at halftime (four in each quarter). He added a two-point conversion run, as well, giving him 50 points scored in the first half. He carried the ball only twice in the second half.

Southeast Region Player of the Week
Tai-ler Jones (Gainesville, Ga.)

The senior wide receiver hauled in 10 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns in a 55-12 rout over North Hall (Gainesville, Ga.). The talented pass-catcher, who entered the game with just one touchdown reception on the year, also returned a 47-yard fumble for a touchdown while playing defensive back. Jones has committed to Stanford.

Midwest Region Player of the Week
John Whitelaw (Hinsdale Central, Hinsdale, Ill.)

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior quarterback celebrated his 18th birthday on Friday by accounting for 500 yards of total offense and seven touchdowns as the Red Devils (2-2) rallied from a 14-point deficit to hand Lyons (3-1) its first loss, 56-42. Whitelaw, who earned second team all-state honors as a junior on a state Class 8A runner-up team, completed 22 of 28 passes for 421 yards and four touchdowns and rushed 19 times for 79 yards and three more scores. Central trailed 42-28 midway through the third quarter before scoring the final 28 points on three Whitelaw TD passes plus a rushing touchdown.

Southwest Region Player of the Week
Tyler Shook (Greenwood, Ark.)

The 6-foot, 170-pound senior completed 30 of 41 passes for 489 yards and six touchdowns and rushed eight times for 60 yards and one touchdown as Greenwood knocked off Shiloh Christian (Springdale, Ark.) in a wild 54-51 shootout. Shook's 3-yard keeper with 23 seconds remaining accounted for the game-winning points. Shiloh junior quarterback Kiehl Frazier also was prolific, completing 32 of 47 passes for 499 yards and six touchdowns.

West Region Player of the Week
Nik Allred (Ogden, Utah)

One of several spread quarterbacks piling up prolific totals this year in Utah, Allred has continued to shine after his first game in August in which he passed for 469 yards. In last week's 63-42 win over Logan that upped Ogden's record to 5-0, Allred tied a state record by throwing seven touchdown passes. He also finished with 23 completions in 33 attempts for 429 yards. In addition, Allred ran the ball 22 times for 150 yards and one score and also had an interception on defense.
