Regional Players of the Week
An emotional record-tying performance in Pennsylvania and a record-breaking night by a nephew of a certain he's retired/he's unretired NFL QB highlight the ESPN RISE Regional Players of the Week.
East Region Player of the Week
Josh Seidel (Bishop McCort, Johnstown, Pa.)
Seidel tied a school record held by his late father, scoring six touchdowns in a 69-35 victory over Richland (Johnstown, Pa.). The senior running back's 327 yards (on 29 carries) were a school record. Dave Seidel, Josh's father and a former Bishop McCort assistant, lost a long battle with brain cancer during the summer. He was 45. He scored six touchdowns in a game in 1981. "I'm honored," an emotional Seidel told the Tribune-Democrat. "It makes me think I got some help up there."
Southeast Region Player of the Week
Dylan Favre (St. Stanislaus, Bay St. Louis, Miss.)
A nephew of Brett Favre, Dylan piled up stats as a sophomore and junior and is doing better as a senior. Favre, who is 5-11 and 195 pounds and uncommitted as a college prospect, set Mississippi career records for touchdown passes and yards during a 42-21 victory over Greene County (Leakesville, Miss.). According to the Biloxi Sun-Herald, Favre was 40-of-48 for 506 yards and six touchdowns, raising his career totals to 9,419 yards and 108 TDs. Dylan's uncle sent a text to the Sun-Herald once the records fell. "Awesome achievement," Brett said. "I'm proud of him."
Midwest Region Player of the Week
Kyle Cook (Little Miami, Morrow, Ohio)
The 6-2, 180-pound senior was 19-of-31 for 437 yards and four touchdowns in a 51-48 loss to Wilmington (Wilmington, Ohio). He also rushed for 105 yards and two scores. As a junior, Cook passed for 2,303 yards and 21 touchdowns and ran for 238 and five scores. He also is a high academic achiever and might target an Ivy League college.
