He could have been named MDVarsity.com's State Player of the Week in nearly any of the weeks he has played, but Gilman's Darius Jennings' fantastic season continued Saturday as Gilman defeated Malvern Prep (Pa.), 28-14.

Mike LovedayJennings has accounted for more than 1,700 total yards this season.
The 6-foot, 180-pound Jennings rushed for 247 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 127 yards and two more touchdowns in the win.

"He was a complete player in that game," Gilman head coach Biff Poggi said. "It's very hard for defenses to stop him all of the time."

Jennings leads Maryland in rushing with 1,227 yards and has rushed for 12 touchdowns this season from the quarterback position. The junior has added 595 yards and nine touchdowns passing.

Jennings has had only two games this season in which he did not rush for at least 210 yards. One was Gilman's Week 0 game against St. John's Catholic Prep in which he did not play much of the second half, and the other was Week 4, when he rushed for 162 yards.

"He has been what we hoped and thought he was going to be," Poggi said of Jennings season. "He's a terrific leader. He has great understanding and he's incredibly explosive."

With the season Jennings is having, the junior is appearing to be the front-runner for Offense Player of the Year and the Consensus All-State team. Jennings' biggest competition looks to come from DeMatha's Marcus Coker, who is just behind Jennings with 1,066 yards rushing. Coker has 14 rushing touchdowns this season.

Jennings currently holds offers from the University of Maryland and Iowa.
