Game of the Week

Centennial High SchoolAnthony Hughes leads Centennial against rival Westview Friday on ESPNU.

No. 15 The Woodlands (The Woodlands, Texas) 8-0 at Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) 7-1
While FAB 50-ranked The Woodlands has had success against perennial power Katy, it has been the opposite against Lufkin. Heading into this week's game, the Highlanders are 0-5 all time against the Panthers, although the last two meetings have been close with Lufkin pulling out 18-15 and 15-13 wins. Junior running back Daniel Lasco has been the usual star for The Woodlands and junior quarterback Deauntre Smiley has been sensational for Lufkin. In last week's 51-20 victory over College Park (The Woodlands, Texas) he was a perfect 19-of-19 for 239 yards and three touchdowns with 149 yards rushing and two more scores. Lufkin already has taken out one FAB 50-ranked team this season with a victory over Longview (Longview, Texas) and enters the contest at No. 11 in the ESPN RISE Southwest Region Top 20. Its only loss is to FAB 50-ranked John Tyler (Tyler, Texas).

Player to Watch

Anthony Hughes
RB/SS, Centennial (Peoria, Ariz.)
Friday's game on ESPNU (8 p.m. ET) between the Coyotes, who are No. 8 in the FAB 50, and league rival Westview (Avondale, Ariz.) is another chance for Hughes to show he's a legit college prospect. He's a 5-foot-11, 210-pounder who plays running back and strong safety and has offers from Colorado State and Northern Arizona. In last week's 52-14 win over Red Mountain (Mesa, Ariz.), Hughes shined with 20 carries for 215 yards and three touchdowns with six tackles on defense. He's been the focal point of Centennial's rushing attack with 1,100 yards and 19 touchdowns and as a three-year starter has helped the team to its current 35-game winning streak.

Upset Alert

No. 35 Northside (Warner Robins, Ga.) 8-0 vs. Warner Robins (Warner Robins, Ga.) 5-3
This game has lost some of its shine in recent years because of new schools opening in the city as well as Northside winning for the last four seasons. Still, it's one of those rivalries in which intensity is high and you can throw out the records of the two schools. The Eagles come in after having to rally from a 13-0 halftime deficit to beat Tift County (Tifton, Ga.) 27-13. One of the Demons' three losses was a 10-0 setback to FAB 50 No. 14 Grayson (Loganville, Ga.).

Team on the RISE?

St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, N.J.)
The Marauders took a big jump up to No. 15 in our East Region rankings thanks to a 43-19 victory over previously unbeaten St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.). Junior running back Savon Huggins showed why he's highly sought after by major Division I colleges as he rushed for 307 yards and three touchdowns, while senior quarterback Raphael Ortiz passed for three scores under rainy conditions at Cochrane Field in New Jersey. St. Peter's Prep has won five straight after losing its opener to St. Joseph's Prep (Philladelphia, Pa.). The Marauders' win over St. Joseph avenged a 14-0 season-opening loss last year. St. Peter's plays winless Dickinson (Jersey City, N.J.) this week before taking on FAB 50 No. 2 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) on Nov. 6.
