It's the moment every prep football player dreams of. It's when all the hard work starts paying off in the form of scholarship offers from the schools you grew up watching on TV.
And when you're a dynamic, 6-foot, 170-pound wide receiver like the 18-year-old Cameron Countryman, you're going to have your pick of big-time schools. He didn't have huge numbers on the field for Beverly Hills (Calif.) -- one touchdown reception and 115 rushing yards (on only 13 carries, though) -- but his potential is off the charts.
So he had offers from Pac-12 schools like Arizona State, Utah and Colorado. But they were interested in him for his work on the gridiron. Ivy League schools like Harvard, Princeton and Penn were interested in him for his work in the classroom.
Countryman chose the classroom. He will enroll at Penn, where he'll also play football, in the fall.
"I knew I couldn't pass up an Ivy League education," said Countryman. "Once I got admitted into their Wharton School of Business, it was an easy call to make. This was a decision I was making for the next 40 years of my life, not just the next four, so I'm very excited to be going to Penn."
