Jewell Loyd of Lincolnwood, Ill.
Coming on the heels of an NCAA tournament run that saw Notre Dame fall just short of an NCAA national championship, coach Muffet McGraw managed to take the momentum from a successful season and use it on the recruiting trail. As a result, the Fighting Irish were able to put together a string of commitments in the spring of 2011 that will surely help them stay towards the top of the national ranks for years to come.
ESPN Hoopgurlz's No. 4 ranked recruit, Jewell Loyd (Lincolnwood, Ill./ Niles West), stands as the signature recruit for the Irish. She stands as the most polished offensive player in the class of 2012 and should make an impact in Notre Dame's line up from day one.
To go along with Loyd, Notre Dame picked up a pair of strong perimeter shooters who complement each other nicely. Michaela Mabrey (Holmdel, N.J./ Manasaquan) is right there with any shooter in the class, nationally, but has the size and toughness to guard multiple positions on the defensive side of the ball. Hannah Huffman (Concord, Calif./Carondolet) is more of a combo guard who is good enough with the basketball to make plays in the half court as well as in pick-and-roll situations.
In the meantime, the Irish are holding one scholarship for the top post prospect in the class, Malina Howard of Twinsburg, Ohio. Adding a second 5-star prospect and increasing the haul to four in the top 100 would give the Irish an argument to move up from its No. 3 perch.
