WCP Spring-May 11: Not Barrett's most spectacular outing but that's not to say she played poorly. She did her job at the point as a facilitator and her post teammates definitely benefited from it. She snuck in a few killer crossovers for good measure. All the physical tools remain as she is one of the more impressive athletes at the guard position. (Hansen)
Solid point guard, lacks third gear to create consistent space against elite level guards. Does what she does well. Facilitates, keeps kids involved on offense. (Clay)
SoCal Sectionals '11: The 5-foot-7 point guard may have chosen USC because she believes Trojan coach Michael Cooper can shape her into a pro prospect, but there is the matter of a senior season at Oaks Christian, plus four years in the Pac-10. Barrett is abundantly prepared for the latter two. Not long, but not exactly compact, either, she is a study in outer and inner strength. Solid, sinewy and explosive, Barrett already is well suited for the next level. She uses her body well to get open, is an unflinching penetrator and can be a very physical defender. She also demonstrates a poise and presence beyond her years. That presence serves her well at the point, where she is a more-than-capable passer. She also is a much better ballhandler than she showed a year earlier, with great change-of-direction moves out of which she explodes. Barrett plays well away from the ball, which will prompt temptations to peg her as a combo guard. However, her shot, particularly off the catch, needs refining and her size likely will confine her to the point at USC. (Nelson)
Nike Skills-May '10: Very athletic and strong point guard. Her ability to handle the ball creates looks off the drive as well as the pull up. She uses both a change of speed and change of direction impressively. Her jumper has her body twisting considerably which will ultimately lead to consistency problems if not corrected. Her physical tools and one on one skills make her one to keep an eye on.
Fall West Coast-Oct. '09: Brianna Barrett of the Salesian Force is an eye-catching athlete. She is muscular from head-to-toe and her athleticism is on par with most of the elite players in the class. She has some shake and handle which allows her to get to the basket and she has a decent shooting stroke. At 5-7 she's a point guard at the next level though she plays both guard spots now. Her scoring traits are obvious but she needs to show she can distribute and make plays with the pass as she grows as a player.
Cali Summer Games-July 09: Oaks Christian High School guard Brianna Barrett showed a dynamic offensive repertoire for her Salesian team as they nearly knocked off West Coast Premier in the semifinals. The 5-7 combo guard showed lots of shake, but most impressive was the explosive burst she used to come out of her change-of-direction moves. However, her handle could be tightened some. At this level, she is so much quicker than most defenders the occasional high dribble isn't exploited. Defensively, she doesn't waste her athleticism either. She accelerates into passing lanes for steals and can start and finish the break.
