Nike TOC-Dec. 09:For two years now Bishop Gorman's star point guard Aaryn Ellenberg has used the TOC as a platform to show the entire country what she is made of. The 5-foot-7 senior with the pretty jump shot and hyper-quick handles showed that "it" factor early in the tournament against Oregon City. There are players who score well when things fall their way and there are players that can put a team on their back and make things happen. Ellenberg's 30-point explosion got her team back in the game, only to be ruined by a midcourt buzzer-beater. Regardless, her scoring, speed, quickness and ability to create will have Sooner fans excited but also wondering what if she played with the Paris twins.
Has the pull up and the stroke. Athleticism and quickness are without question, but the consistency is still missing. There's a tendency to disappear at times and it's very noticeable because she stands out so much otherwise.
TOC Dec. 08 II: While somewhat small and slight in build, Ellenberg has the quickness and speed to make her size a moot point. She penetrates at will hand has the ability to finish in traffic even with sizeable help side defenders in her face. Making her move to the rim even more a threat is an impressive pull up that she elevates well on. And just for good measure - add to that the range to knock down the long ball. All of that is in the half court, in transition she's a blur and even harder to stay in front of defensively.
TOC Dec. 08 I: While the stock market may have proven to be a roller coaster ride over the past year, the stock of 5-7 Aaryn Ellenberg has continued its meteoric rise. Mind you, the Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) point guard has always been a "blue chip" investment and college recruiters have little doubt that she's a sure thing. The consistent scoring threat that Ellenberg is every time she steps on the floor forces defenses out of their comfort zone and makes them adjust its focus. What makes her point production even more efficient is the multi-dimensional aspect of her offensive skills. She has the quickness to get by defenders and take it to the rim. If the help side rotates she reads with great vision and makes the smart pass or delivers a smooth pull up jumper. Even as defenses give her space on the perimeter she makes them pay with good range and a smooth stroke. She exhibits a lot of the skills and physical build that made Oklahoma's Danielle Robinson one of the nation's top prospects a few years back. However, her shot is much more advanced and effective and that's going to keep Coach Krmpotich smiling for at least another year.
