ESPN Player Evaluations

Lanz is strong player on the floor. Against players that are quicker than she is she utilizes her strength. She is a physical player that will use her body on both ends of the floor. At some points of games she was too focused on being physical, getting cheap fouls trying to bump people.

The positive of her physical style of play is that she can overwhelm smaller defenders both off the dribble and on the box. She does a great job of getting position and punishing defenders inside. She is good at creating contact that takes the defender off balance enough to not make a good play on defense or bother a shot. She also fills the gap on dribble penetration, gets into the defenders hips and with her strength, dictates the path to the basket. She creates some and-one's in these situations as well.

Lanz's passing touch, which was evident a year ago when we saw last year, was on showcase again. From the first tip her marksmanship on the pass was evident. She made great passes in traffic finding open teammates when the interior defenders collapsed on her. She also made near perfect passes in transition, some more than half the length of the court.

She shot the ball well but wasn't as aggressive in scoring as she has been in the past, perhaps due to her illness and in game number two, due to the foul trouble. She%u2019s a solid prospect that in the right system can fill a void in either guard spot. Her size should allow her to play the two along with her shooting ability. Her ability to stay in front of guards with elite level quickness is the question mark and hardly one that can be answered while ill.
