Battle in the Boro-July 11: The vision, decision making and passing that we've seen in the past were just as sharp and effective in Murfreesboro. Her distribution of the ball was more than just reading the best option. Her ability to mix things up and keep opposing defenses guessing and on their toes is something difficult to find in a high school point guard. More impressive still is the pressure and expectations that Rodrigo puts on herself. Her frustration with a turnover or simply a missed opportunity are obvious but don't get in the way of the next play. If anything they serve to push her that much harder and usually lead to some positive results in just a possession or two. Defensively the on ball attack was still reliable and the weakside has improved but could still use some more attention. (Lewis)
USJN DC-July 10: We would like to take this time and salute the true point guard -- those that lead by example and understand that rewards of good point guard play are wins. Those who follow the saying know the job is never complete and that there's always something a team can improve on. We present Rodrigo to those who enjoy pure point guard play. While she may not stuff the scorecard, she will certainly be the player that earns the respect of her opponents. She has the ability to penetrate and find open teammates. Her vision, decision-making ability and passing skills are what set her apart. Defensively, she is a pressure defender who uses both her compact frame and smarts to disrupt the opposition.
If the definition of a point guard is the ability to help her teammates be their best then you can define Rodrigo that way. Creating scoring opportunities off penetration as well as razor sharp vision and passing, she led her team to an impressive performance in DC. Her own scoring consistency will have to advance to keep defenders closing out but the potential is there. Physically she's got the quickness and speed and some one on one skills to get her own looks. Defensively she's active on the ball but tends to come out of her stance on the weakside. (Lewis)
Battle For The Boro-July 10: Playing a much more effective game at the point. Has the quickness and speed as well as the ability to play at a up tempo pace. Penetrates almost at will and can deliver the ball or hit the short pull up. In transition will see the floor and kick it ahead for the simple looks or numbers situations. Active on ball defender but a little lax on the weakside. (Lewis)
Peach State-May '10: Great size for a combo guard and a smooth way about her. She has the length to make players over smaller guards and when she puts her mind to it defensively can tip a lot of passes. Decent shooting stroke but doesn't impact the game as much as we would like for a player with her size, athleticism and skill set.
Bayou-July '09: One of the top point guards in the region in the class. She has a command of the game like few players her age. Does a good job of controlling tempo and setting up teammates. She'll need to be more vocal, but appears to have adequate leadership skills for the position, just needs to voice those at times. Solid build and good overall size for the position.
