- Cleandra Roberts helps Miami Norland claim back-to-back state championships
- Seniors Cleandra Roberts and Stephanie Edwards scored all of their team's 12 overtime points as Miami Norland (27-2) defeated Pensacola High in the 4A title game to claim back-to-back Florida state championships on Saturday afternoon.
Miami Norland last year beat Lake Mary to win the Florida 6A state championship.
Roberts, a Long Island University signee, had eight of her team-high 18 points during overtime, while Edwards chipped in with 14 points and six assists.
Pensacola senior Jasmine Richardson shared game-high honors with Roberts, scoring 18 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Richardson also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. The Tigers (28-3) failed to place another scorer in double figures, as the Vikings defense held junior LaDeyah Forte and sophomore Kyla Muhammad to a combined four for 24 from the field. The guard duo combined for 33 points during Pensacola?s semifinal win over Jefferson 65-46 on Friday afternoon.
