- It's fitting that Taryn Griffey, the sophomore guard for Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.), who stands all of 5 feet 6 inches on a good day, would have an encore 22-point, 16-rebound finish in the FHSAA Class 8A semifinal win over University (Orlando, Fla.). The four-star guard with explosive leaping ability led her team on Saturday with 17 points and another 16 rebounds to push the Panthers to a 72-50 win over Dr. Krop (Miami, Fla.), and complete the task of repeating as state champions.
Junior guard Sydnei McCaskill also finished with 17 points for the Panthers in the championship game.
