- 4-star G Tiara Griffin chooses an SEC school to close the early period
- Tiara Griffin of Monticello, Miss., announced on Wednesday, the last day of the early signing period for the class of 2012, that she has committed to the University of Georgia. The 5-foot-9 guard also considered Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Providence before deciding on the Bulldogs.
"The past couple of days my heart has been set on Georgia," Griffin said. "Each school has a good sell for why I should come to their school, but I just feel in my heart that this will be the best place for me."
Griffin averaged 30.1 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals per game as a junior at Lawrence County High School (Montcello, Miss.), helping lead her team to the Class 4A championship game. She also was an All-State selection last year.
"I am excited about the education offered with their Accounting Program at Georgia, and I really like the coaching staff there," Griffin said. "I look forward to having a chance to compete for a national championship, not just a Sweet 16 appearance."
Griffin had a strong summer playing for Burnell Wesco's SME-White club team, earning a four-star rating from ESPN HoopGurlz. She is the fifth player in coach Andy Landers' 2012 recruiting haul.
"I know everybody asked me if I can handle his get in your face approach," Griffin said of Landers while smiling. "After going through all the stuff this school year, I can handle anything when I know you care. God will always be there through the good and the bad. I look forward to him pushing me to be the best that I can be."
